Breastfeeding
The Village believe ‘fed is best’. Women make their choice and we support you. For those who chose to breastfeed and may need support, our legendary Lactation Consultants are here and boy are they good.
The Australian Institute of Welfare reported breastfeeding initiation rates of around 96% in Australia. However, exclusive breastfeeding rates tend to decline rapidly over a short amount of time. For example, at three months postpartum, exclusive breastfeeding rates are around 39% and at six months, they drop to about 15%.
Women say they stop breastfeeding for various reasons; Many women cite insufficient milk supply as a reason for discontinuing breastfeeding, even though true low milk supply is relatively rare. Nipple pain and engorgement (good lord it can be so painful!) and returning to work to name a few.
We believe in the direct correlation between women who want to breastfeed but have trouble that leads them to stopping and post natal depression/anxiety. In all of the learning, reading, courses, nothing can quite prepare a new mum with the shock of breastfeeding. An LC can be such a game changer to a breastfeeding mum and Bub. We consider them an absolute must.
